An affordable winter week in Beijing
Beijing has been in the front of people’s minds during the Summer of 2008. It could be said that the Olympic Stadium known as the ‘Bird’s Nest’ is perhaps more iconic than the Great Wall. We have chosen a conveniently located 4 star hotel. Our arrangements include a guided tour to the Great Wall at Mutianyu with lunch and a stop at the Summer Palace on the return.
Perhaps you could hire a bike for a day (although the level of motorised traffic has increased and the cyclist needs to be more alert). There are masses of good Chinese restaurants and more than enough serving international cuisine. The Forbidden City can take a whole day and has an excellent audio tour. There are markets and shopping malls. There are modern architectural marvels – not least the new Olympic Stadium & the CCTV building.
We will prepare a handbook with suggested visits which you can make on your own, and also instructions on arranging accompanied tours.

Hotels
Xiyuan Hotel – Good 4 star hotel based in northwest of Beijing, not far from the Zoo, in its own commercial district, taxi to Tiananmen Square takes about 20 minutes depending on traffic. Just inside 2nd North Circular Road.
Prime Hotel – 5 star hotel located on Wangfujing – the main shopping street of Beijing, within walking distance of the back entrance to the Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, the night food market.
