An affordable winter week in Beijing
It is easy to fill a week in Beijing – and there will still be things which you will miss! Whether you are interested in the traditional Imperial Sites, the many excellent museums, modern art and architecture, shopping and eating out. We have chosen a conveniently located hotel. Our arrangements include a guided tour to the Great Wall at Mutianyu with lunch and a stop at the Summer Palace on the return.
Perhaps you could hire a bike for a day (although the level of motor traffic has increased and the cyclist needs to be more alert), and it is often quicker to use the Beijing Metro than sit in a taxi in traffic. There are masses of good Chinese restaurants and more than enough serving international cuisine. The Forbidden City can take a whole day and has an excellent audio tour. There are markets and shopping malls. There are modern architectural marvels – not least the new Olympic Stadium & the CCTV building.
We will prepare a handbook with suggested visits which you can make on your own, and also instructions on arranging accompanied tours.
Depart London (Saturday).
Arrive Beijing – transfer to Beijing International Hotel (or similar), time to rest and acclimatise.
In Beijing. For your first day in Beijing we suggest you head to Tiananmen Square to the National Museum of China or the Forbidden City.
Full day visit to Great Wall at Mutianyu with lunch and visit to Summer Palace on your return (excursion included in package price)
If you are interested in modern art, we recommend a visit to 798 Art District and possibly either the Chinese Academy of Fine Art Museum (CAFA) or TODAY Art Museum of Modern Art.
If you haven’t already tried Beijing Duck, we highly recommend the Da Dong Beijing Duck Restaurants, where you can usually see the Beijing Chefs at work. Probably some last minute shopping is also called for – the Silk Market or Pearl Market near the Temple of Heaven.
Depart Beijing, same day arrival at London Heathrow.
